Big Trouble Pizza, the Geary Avenue pizzeria known for its butter-forward pies and smash burgers, will close on Saturday, January 31, 2026. The team posted the news on Instagram, thanking customers for eight years of support and asking fans to drop by during the final week.
The announcement also hinted at a new project from the crew behind Big Trouble, saying they have been working on something new and will share details in time.

A short history: Chinatown, Annex Hotel and Geary

Big Trouble began in Chinatown, then operated from the Annex Hotel before opening the Geary Avenue spot where it built a regular following. The Instagram statement thanked customers for enthusiasm for signature pies such as Butter Jam Jam and Kung Funghi, and for supporting the business through each iteration.

After 8 years, Big Trouble Pizza will be serving its last slice on Saturday January 31st, 2026. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support, thank you for all the enthusiasm for pizzas like our Butter Jam Jam and Kung Funghi since our days in Chinatown, through our time at the Annex Hotel and now on Geary.

What to order in the final days

If you plan to visit in the final week, priorities are the menu items that defined the place. Staff singled out fan favourites in their post, and regulars have been calling for the Butter Jam Jam and Kung Funghi. The restaurant also became known for its gooey smash burgers, which drew diners looking for a meal alongside pizza.

  • Kung Funghi pizza, their signature mushroom pie
  • Gooey smash burger, a menu staple praised by regulars
  • Any rotating specials, which often featured seasonal toppings
The team encouraged customers to come down during the last week to share stories and laughs, and to collect one last meal at 191 Geary Ave.

Reaction from regulars

The closure prompted a strong reaction on social media from longtime customers. Responses ranged from gratitude to disbelief, underscoring how the spot had become part of routines for neighbours and visitors alike.

Thank you for being the only spot to get a wicked burger and a delicious slice all under one roof.

What comes next

Big Trouble’s post framed the closure as the end of one chapter and the start of another. The team said they have been working on a new project for several months and that more information will come later. They asked for continued support as they move into the next phase.

With that being said, we are working on a new project. It’s something we’ve been focusing more and more on over the last couple months. What’s coming is something we’re very enthusiastic and passionate about.

No details about the new project were included in the announcement, and the team did not specify whether the new plan will stay within the city or involve a different concept.

How to plan a final visit

If you want to visit before the doors close, plan to go during the final week. The Geary Avenue location is at 191 Geary Ave. The team requested that customers come by to enjoy favourites and to share stories with staff during the last days.
Expect higher traffic as word spreads, and consider giving staff a little extra time if the line is long. The post thanked customers for years of support and asked for continued support as they prepare for the new venture.
Big Trouble’s farewell marks the end of a visible run in Toronto’s independent restaurant scene. For now, the next chapter is still under wraps, and fans will have one more week to say goodbye in person.
