Uber Eats has named Calgary the Canadian city with the most generous tippers, according to a report released for the platform’s 10th anniversary in Canada. Edmonton, Montreal and Halifax round out the top four cities for tipping.
The report accompanies broader data on how Canadians use the service, including popular items, cuisine trends and a civility ranking based on polite language in orders.

Top tipping cities

Uber Eats ranked Canadian cities by how generous customers are with tips. Ontario places heavily in the overall list, but Toronto and Vancouver do not lead the pack.
  • Calgary, Alta.
  • Edmonton, Alta.
  • Montreal, Que.
  • Halifax, N.S.
  • Ottawa, Ont.
  • Kingston, Ont.
  • Hamilton, Ont.
  • Winnipeg, Man.
  • Kitchener–Waterloo, Ont.
  • London, Ont.

Calgary customers were the most generous tippers on Uber Eats, followed by Edmonton, according to the company’s 10th anniversary report.

Politeness and civility on orders

The report also measured polite phrasing in customer notes. Edmontonians ranked as the most polite, based on how often they used words such as please, thank you and merci. Ottawa placed second, and Toronto came third.

What Canadians ordered in 2025

Uber Eats published its list of the platform’s most ordered items and cuisines for the year. Popular individual items included burrito bowls, coffee, chicken, bagels and shawarma. The top five cuisines were Asian, American, Canadian, Indian and Japanese.
The report also highlighted some unusual items delivered through the app, such as a space cowgirl Halloween costume, a pickleball set, a disco ball and a Christmas dog collar.

Growth of Uber Eats in Canada

Uber Eats launched in Toronto in 2015 as a small lunch-delivery service. The company now operates in more than 400 Canadian cities and says it reaches about 85 percent of the population. In January, the platform reported surpassing one billion deliveries in the country.
Those figures reflect both restaurant and non-restaurant deliveries, including groceries, flowers and household items, which the report notes have become a regular part of Canadians’ ordering habits.

What the data means for drivers and customers

Regional differences in tipping behaviour can affect driver earnings on a local level, the report suggests. Cities with higher average tips may offer steadier supplemental income for couriers, while other regions may rely more on base pay and incentives.
For customers, the report provides a snapshot of shifting preferences and shopping habits on delivery platforms. For drivers and partners, it highlights where demand and generosity are concentrated.

Takeaway

Uber Eats’ 10th anniversary report places Calgary at the top of the tipping list and offers broader insight into what Canadians order and how they interact with delivery services. The findings underscore regional variations in tipping and civility, along with continuing growth for delivery platforms across the country.
