Three downtown Las Vegas hotels are temporarily accepting the Canadian dollar at par with the US dollar for select hotel, gaming and bar purchases. The At Par program runs through Aug. 31 at Circa Resort and Casino, the D Las Vegas and Golden Gate Hotel and Casino.
The promotion aims to reduce currency friction for Canadian travellers, allowing Canadians to use their dollars at equal value for participating services, and to redeem up to $500 in slot promotional play at par.
How the At Par program works
Under the At Par program, participating hotels will treat Canadian dollars as if they were US dollars for select purchases. That applies to certain room bookings made on the hotels' websites, bar tabs at designated hotel bars, and to promotional slot play, subject to limits and terms the hotels set. The program does not change official exchange rates or affect purchases made off-property.
For slot play specifically, guests can redeem up to $500 in promotional play and have that value honoured at par. Hotel statements and charges may still show amounts in US dollars depending on how the property posts transactions.
Which hotels are participating
The three properties enrolled in the promotion are Circa Resort and Casino, the D Las Vegas and Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. All three are owned by Derek Stevens' company and are located in the downtown Las Vegas area.
Why the hotels launched the program
Derek Stevens, the CEO of the three properties, said the promotion reflects his personal ties to Canada and a desire to make visits easier for Canadian guests. Stevens grew up in the Detroit area near Windsor, Ontario, and has family and long-standing connections in southern Ontario.
If you book on our website, you book a hotel room, Canadian dollars go off as American dollars. I want to invite Canada back to Las Vegas.
Derek Stevens, CEO
What this means for Canadian travellers
The promotion can reduce immediate currency conversion hassles for short stays or casual spending at participating outlets. Using Canadian dollars at par can simplify budgeting and reduce the visible impact of exchange fees when paying in cash or on-site. However, travellers should still check credit card fees, foreign transaction charges and how their bank posts international transactions.
Guests who plan to use promotional slot play should confirm details when they book or arrive. The up-to-$500 redemption applies only to promotional play, and rules or eligibility conditions may apply.
How to use the offer and practical tips
- Book rooms directly through the hotels' official websites to ensure CAD is accepted at par for qualifying reservations.
- Ask at check-in which bars and outlets will accept Canadian cash at par, and whether credit card charges will reflect any different posting.
- Confirm the terms for promotional slot play, including how to redeem credits and any wagering or payout rules.
- Check your card issuer's foreign transaction fees before using a credit card, since those fees are separate from the hotel's pricing.
- Keep receipts and monitor your statements after checkout to verify how charges were processed.
Limitations and fine print
The At Par program is time-limited, available only through Aug. 31. It applies to select services at the participating hotels, not to all purchases across Las Vegas. Details such as which outlets participate, whether credit card payments will be adjusted at point of sale, and how promotional play is applied are set by each property. Guests should confirm terms directly with the hotel before travelling.
Accepting Canadian dollars at par does not change official exchange rates, nor does it remove bank or card issuer fees on international transactions. Some charges may still post in US dollars on statements.
Where to get more information
The hotels have posted details about the At Par campaign on their official websites and social channels. Prospective guests should review those pages or contact the properties directly for the latest rules and any updates to the program.
If you plan to travel to Las Vegas this summer and want to avoid upfront currency conversions, the At Par program offers a straightforward, time-limited option for using Canadian dollars at participating downtown hotels. Confirm the terms before you go, and keep an eye on how purchases post to your accounts.
