York Regional Police are investigating after two masked suspects fired several shots at a parked vehicle and smashed its windows at a Vaughan home early Sunday. Neighbours reported hearing gunfire around 4:30 a.m. in the area of Madeira Avenue and Genoa Road; no one was injured.
Surveillance footage shared with CP24 shows a dark grey Honda Civic arriving at 4:33 a.m. Two people wearing dark clothing and masks exit the vehicle. One appears to smash the rear windows, while the other fires multiple rounds at the driver’s side door and later at the car’s tires.
What the video shows
The short clip circulated by neighbours captures the suspects approaching the parked vehicle and carrying out the damage in plain view of nearby homes. Residents told media some were roused by the sound of gunfire, while others learned what had happened after neighbours alerted them. Investigators have not released the full footage.
Police investigation and suspect description
York Regional Police said the Firearms Investigation Team has taken the lead on the probe. Investigators describe one suspect as heavy-set, wearing a black hat and a dark coat. Police have not provided additional identifying details and have not confirmed a motive.
This activity is completely unacceptable in Vaughan or in any other community for that matter. I have been in touch with York Regional Police this morning and their investigation is ongoing. We need our federal and provincial partners to work together to toughen penalties, keep criminals behind bars and deliver real punishment for those who break the law.

Community reaction
Neighbours described a heightened sense of unease after the overnight incident. Several residents said they want local officials to take action to prevent similar events, including exploring options for increased policing or community safety measures. Some plan to contact the mayor’s office and city councillors to press for a response.
