Toronto police and the family of a 90-year-old man named Joseph say the search for him remains active after he was last seen in the city’s east end late on Jan. 30. Officers say concern is growing because Joseph has medical conditions that require medication he does not have with him.
Police say Joseph was last observed at about 11:48 p.m. near Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street East in the Leslieville neighbourhood. Investigators have not located him and they have not confirmed whether he is travelling on foot or in a vehicle.

What police say about Joseph’s disappearance

Duty Insp. Jon Rose, speaking from 12 Division on Feb. 1, said officers are dedicating significant resources to locate Joseph and that the situation is being treated with urgency. He repeated requests for the public’s help in the search and asked residents to check their properties for any sign of the man.

We are putting all the resources possible into this situation. We are concerned for Joseph’s safety,

Duty Insp. Jon Rose
Police warned that the recent cold weather raises the risk to someone of Joseph’s age if he is exposed outdoors. Authorities also told CP24 that their concern grows because Joseph requires specific medication that he does not have with him.

Description and possible vehicle

Joseph is described as about five-foot-five, with white hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a beige coat, a red and black striped vest, blue jeans and blue rubber walking shoes.
Police say he may be driving a greyish-blue Toyota Corolla bearing Ontario licence plate DCKX933. Investigators have not confirmed whether he is currently in that vehicle or elsewhere on foot.

How you can help

Toronto police are asking anyone with information or relevant video footage to come forward. They specifically urge neighbours and business owners to review surveillance or doorbell camera recordings from the area around Coxwell and Gerrard for the time surrounding 11:48 p.m. on Jan. 30.
  • Check properties, garages, sheds and other sheltered spots where an elderly person might seek protection from the cold
  • Look for a greyish-blue Toyota Corolla with licence plate DCKX933
  • Note the time and location of any possible sighting and preserve any video or images
  • Contact Toronto police or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers

We are very much concerned for his safety. We’d very much like to get Joseph home to his family,

Duty Insp. Jon Rose

Context and safety reminders

Missing-person cases involving older adults can escalate quickly, particularly in extreme cold. Families and caregivers should keep recent photos and a current description on hand, and register relevant details with police early in the process. Community members can help by keeping an eye on local outdoor spaces and reviewing home surveillance if requested by investigators.
Toronto police continue to investigate and are coordinating search efforts. Anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
The family and police ask for privacy while the search continues, and they thank the public for any assistance that helps bring Joseph safely home.
