The Finch West LRT was suspended Friday at about 4:30 a.m. due to snowy conditions, the Toronto Transit Commission said. Shuttle buses are operating between Finch West and Humber College stations while crews work to restore rail service.
The outage is the second consecutive day the line has been taken out of service by winter weather. On Thursday the line was entirely out of service amid a record-breaking snowfall in Toronto.
Service disruption details
The TTC posted the initial alert on social media early Friday, noting that crews were responding to weather-related issues. The agency said shuttle buses would bridge the affected segment while technicians assess conditions and clear the line where needed.

TTC
Passengers using the Finch West line should expect delays and longer travel times. The TTC advised customers to check live service updates on its website and social channels for changes to shuttle bus placement and timings.
Context: reliability since opening
The closure adds to a series of operational problems that have affected the new LRT since it opened in December. Winter weather has been a recurring factor in recent interruptions, and the service has faced multiple delays and temporary shutdowns as officials work to stabilise operations.
Municipal and transit officials have previously said teams would continue to refine procedures and systems to improve winter resilience. The TTC did not provide a timeline for when full rail service would resume on Friday.
Advice for riders
- Check the TTC website or official social media channels for the latest service bulletins.
- Allow extra travel time and follow directions at affected stations for shuttle bus pick-up points.
- Consider alternate routes such as nearby subway lines or regular bus services where available.
- Purchase fare options in advance when possible to avoid delays boarding replacement buses.
Transit agencies regularly update customers during major weather events. Riders are encouraged to monitor alerts before beginning travel and to plan for contingencies while crews work to restore the Finch West LRT.
